Reiki and Religion | Clearing Up the Confusion

There is a great misunderstanding that Reiki is satanic within the Christian community. When one is part of any group, they are also a part of that given group’s consciousness.
Group consciousness is the shared awareness and beliefs held by a group of people, which can be a unifying force within society. We live in a time where it is important within society to “fit in". Part of the fitting in we do is adhere to the group’s belief system without questions, for to question the group’s belief system is to challenge it. Challenging the group’s belief system can isolate one from the group, so we tend to just go with the flow.
Anything we don't understand falls into the unknown, which often seems dark. The Christian community has a knee jerk reaction to label anything with the appearance of darkness as satanic. As believers we miss out on a lot with this social structure. The healing properties of reiki being one of them!
When yoga first came to the United States, it too was unknown and mistakenly labeled “satanic”. However, eventually the Christian community began to understand there is no spiritual intent within yoga. It is simply stretching and exercise. Today, it is vastly used within the Christian community with high benefits both physically and spiritually for the believer.
Reiki has no spiritual intent. The Japanese word “Reiki” translates “Life Force Energy”. Life Force Energy is God. Within Reiki, practitioners focus on Light and Love when administering Reiki. Light and Love are God’s attributes; He is Light and Love.
Reiki was founded in the 1920’s by Mikao Usui but he did not invent Reiki. Reiki has always been. What Mikao Usui did was develop a way to teach others how to harness God’s Life Force Energy and use it to bring balance and healing. His focus was for it to not be a part of any religious group so that it could be used by the whole. Reiki practitioners are taught that they have nothing to do with Life Force Energy, they are simply conduits for it to flow through their hands. Reiki does what it knows to do and goes where it knows to go. The Bible talks about when we don’t have words to pray that the Holy Spirit prays on our behalf. I see the movement of Reiki through a practitioner’s hands as the Holy Spirit directing God’s Light and Love to where the client is needing balance and healing.
So why would one benefit from Reiki sessions? Because we have two bodies. We are merely spiritual beings having a human experience. Our human body will die and decay, but our spiritual body is eternal as we are eternal. We are aware of our spiritual body without being aware. We sense someone approaching us from behind, we feel someone looking at us, we say things like “they have such a good/bad vibe”. These observations are all made by our spiritual body. The spiritual body is a sphere of energy that surrounds our human body. Everything that is alive has an energetic energy sphere surrounding it, because everything that is alive has Life Force Energy flowing within it. Energy cannot be stopped, killed, or damaged. Energy is eternal, we are eternal.
Just like our body has vital organs, a nervous system, and veins carrying oxygen to every part, the spiritual body has seven main chakras, minor chakras, micro chakras, and nadis that act similarly within our spiritual body. These two bodies are intertwined. Our spiritual body is like the wind, we understand it by the effects it has on what we can see and measure. Our human body speaks on behalf of our spiritual body as it feels the effects of the chakra system. Just like our vital organs hold their specific job, so do each chakra and nadis. They are energy vortexes spinning and when they get thrown off balance by life’s stressors the physical body cries out to let us know. Physical pain and illnesses can be directly tied to the chakra in that body part’s location.
Here are a few examples:
Root Chakra (Muladhara):
Physical: Lower back pain, issues with the legs and feet, digestive problems, and immune disorders.
Mental/Emotional: Feelings of fear, insecurity, anxiety, feeling disconnected from your body, or financial instability.
Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana):
Physical: Reproductive issues, lower abdominal discomfort, or urinary problems.
Mental/Emotional: Emotional numbness, creative block, difficulty with intimacy, anxiety, or isolation.
Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura):
Physical: Digestive issues, fatigue, or problems with the liver and pancreas.
Mental/Emotional: Low self-esteem, lack of confidence, lack of motivation, or controlling behaviors.
Heart Chakra (Anahata):
Physical: Chest tightness, heart palpitations, respiratory problems, or upper back and shoulder pain.
Mental/Emotional: Emotional pain, difficulty giving or receiving love, resentment, or a sense of isolation.
Throat Chakra (Vishuddha):
Physical: Sore throats, thyroid issues, neck stiffness, or vocal cord problems.
Mental/Emotional: Difficulty expressing yourself, fear of judgment, or dishonesty.
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna):
Physical: Headaches, eye problems, or sleep disturbances.
Mental/Emotional: Confusion, lack of clarity, poor decision-making, or scattered thoughts.
Crown Chakra (Sahasrara):
Physical: Neurological disorders, insomnia, or depression.
Mental/Emotional: Issues with self-knowledge, rigid thoughts, confusion, or a feeling of being disconnected from a higher purpose.
Allowing a Reiki practitioner to balance each one of our chakras can be highly beneficial for overall mental and physical health. But don’t stop at getting help purely from a Reiki practitioner, seek to learn how to do Reiki on yourself! This is how I personally got into Reiki. I did Reiki to myself on an almost daily basis for two years and the results have astounded my primary doctor and all who do life closely with me. Through Reiki I was able to flip my PTSD nervous system that was stuck in fight or flight, which led my mind into staying in the rational instead of constantly battling the irrationality I was living with. It brought calm to my chaos, stability, and confidence. It truly flipped life’s script for me in such a profound way that I HAD to turn and offer it to those around me.
Being a trauma survivor, who journeyed through several therapist, several treatment programs, and dug deep to find the information I needed to calm my chaos over many years… I HAD to do something to turn and help those like me to find what I found quicker, smoother, and offer the support I did not have to implement it all. This is what has birthed Joyful Energy Healing! I am here to help you find the peace you are searching for. If you are a Christian, I encourage you to not allow the label “satanic” to keep you from finding the AMAZING benefits of Reiki. I would love to talk with you more and offer you 50% off your first Reiki session with me to see if this would be something you would find high value in.
I look forward to meeting you soon!
